Aloft slides into Early Access: Building a new home in lofty heights
The English term ‘Aloft’ means ‘up’, ‘on high’ or ‘high above’. And that's exactly where you'll find yourself in Aloft, which launched in Early Access today.
Publisher Funcom and developer Astrolabe Interactive promise you the blue sky with their new (co-op) survival game - and they're not lying. Because you really will be surviving on islands floating between clouds, collecting resources, building diligently and doing something for the floating ecosystems.
In Aloft you literally glide from one previously discovered island to the next, either alone or with up to eight survival partners in co-operative multiplayer mode. Once you've spotted a nice spot to build your house on an island, you can develop the site for your future island penthouse, make tools, prepare food and open up further possibilities after discovering new technologies. If you want to expand further, simply fly through the open skies and settle elsewhere. In doing so, you may also uncover one or two story secrets.
Aloft is described by the manufacturer itself as a ‘feel-good survival game’. In plain language, this means: little pressure and stress, but all the more rewards if you do your job well. And yet not everything is okay in 7th heaven for house builders: life-threatening fungal plagues can jeopardise entire ecosystems. Develop cures and also take care of animals and biodiversity!
