What is Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced?

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag was one of the most beloved entries in the Assassin's Creed series when it launched in 2013: a pirate adventure set in the Caribbean where you play as Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw, navigating the conflict between Assassins and Templars, boarding enemy ships, and experiencing the Golden Age of Piracy alongside the legendary pirate Blackbeard. More than a decade later, that very story returns—not as a simple remaster, but as a full-scale remake featuring stunning visuals: Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, developed by numerous Ubisoft studios (including Ubisoft Singapore, Quebec, Montpellier, and Barcelona) using the latest version of the Anvil Engine. The Black Flag remake brings together Ubisoft's combined development power.

As Edward Kenway, you'll once again sail across the sun-soaked Caribbean in Black Flag Resynced, board enemy vessels aboard the Jackdaw, and seamlessly switch between stealth assassinations and open sword fights using swords, pistols, and the Hidden Blade. In addition to the original story, the remake introduces exclusive new content: familiar characters such as Blackbeard, Caroline Scott-Kenway, and Stede Bonnet each receive brand-new missions, while three new officers—Lucy Baldwin, The Padre, and Tobias "Deadman" Smith—join your crew as allies, each bringing unique questlines and gameplay bonuses. The remake also adds new sea shanties, ship pets for the Jackdaw (currently confirmed: a monkey and a cat), and a Photo Mode.

The gameplay has also received significant improvements. The combat system places greater emphasis on dodging, parrying, and precise eliminations, while stealth and parkour have been enhanced to allow for more flexible escapes and assassinations. The spectacular naval battles have also been expanded with new alternative firing methods for the Jackdaw. Numerous quality-of-life improvements address many of the criticisms of the original game. Visually, the remake features ray tracing, micropolygon rendering (similar to UE5's Nanite), a dynamic weather system, and greatly enhanced audio with Dolby Atmos support.

There is no multiplayer mode—Black Flag Resynced focuses entirely on its single-player campaign, the game's greatest strength. A one-time internet connection is required for the initial installation. After that, the entire main campaign can be played offline. However, an internet connection is still required for Animus Hub live content and downloading updates. The game features full German voice acting. If you prefer gaming on the go, Ubisoft has officially confirmed that Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced will be playable on Steam Deck and similarly powerful PC handhelds at launch.
