Cities will be up to 5 times bigger in Cities Skylines 2
Bigger cities? Cities Skylines 2 will be up to 5 times larger when it launches in October 2023. Watch the brand new dev diary video to see why!
As we slowly approach the October release date of Cities: Skylines 2, developer Colossal Order continues to provide us with new videos and developer diaries about the sequel to the city-building game. In the latest dev diary (Number 7), it's all about the how much larger they'll be compared to the previous game.
Developer Colossal Order spoke more about how they've expanded the scope of the sequel:
"In Cities: Skylines, the playable area consists of 5x5 tiles, 9 of which can be purchased once everything is unlocked. A tile is 1.92 x 1.92 km, resulting in a total playable area of 92.16 km², with a maximum of 33.18 km² available to build a city."
In Cities: Skylines 2, everything gets considerably bigger:
"First of all, a tile is much smaller - about 1/3 compared to its predecessor - almost all tiles can be unlocked, giving a total of an incredible 441 tiles. This results in a playable area of 159 km², which is about 5 times larger than in Cities: Skylines. "
Another interesting innovation: The unlockable tiles in Cities: Skylines 2 do not all have to be connected, which could open up some interesting possibilities, such as small isolated towns. Also, the new height limit will offer more flexibility and design options for your dream city!
Cities: Skylines 2 offers ten different maps, which are modeled on real environments and differ in terms of height differences and amount of water.
- Archipelago Haven
- Barrier Island
- Great Highlands
- Mountain Village
- River Delta
- Sweeping Plains
- Twin Mountain
- Waterway Pass
- Windy Fjords
