Nacon and Big Bad Wolf have released a gameplay overview trailer for Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss. Something is lurking in the depths of the Pacific!

Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss is a first-person horror game set in the Lovecraft universe. You take on the role of Agent Noah, a member of Interpol’s secret Ancile division for occult affairs. His mission: to investigate the mysterious disappearance of miners at a derelict deep-sea station in 2053. The trail leads straight to the heart of R'lyeh—a gigantic, sunken city from the Lovecraft mythos, where Cthulhu will likely drive you mad.

Branching Storyline, AI Companion, Unreal Engine 5

In terms of gameplay, the game combines classic detective work with a sanity system. In the so-called Vault—your cognitive notebook—you link collected clues to form hypotheses, much like on an investigator’s bulletin board. Analyzing objects consumes limited energy, so you’ll need to manage your resources in the midst of this horror-filled journey. A sonar system helps you navigate the station’s dark, hard-to-see corridors. The deeper Noah ventures, the stronger Cthulhu’s influence becomes: the so-called Corruption impairs both physical and cognitive abilities and can permanently alter the course of the game.

At Noah’s side is the AI Key, who helps evaluate evidence. The story branches based on your decisions—multiple endings are possible. Visually, the game runs on Unreal Engine 5, which is intended to shine particularly in the physics-defying environments of R’lyeh. Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss releases on April 16, 2026, for PC.
