What's new in Destiny 2? 11 New Things that are coming to the FPS Sequel

Bungie is upping the stakes in their MMO Shooter sequel Destiny 2 by adding new features into the game, here's a rundown of some of the new things players can expect at launch.

IGN is counting down some of the new features coming to the open world shooter Destiny 2, and today they've broken down 11 brand new features coming to Destiny 2 that players can look forward to when the game launches on October 24th (or September 6th for Console players). Let's take a look at the list while we wait patiently for the upcoming PC Beta to start next week!

11 New Things in Destiny 2

Here's a breakdown for some of the new features coming to Destiny 2:

New Story and Villain

The new bad is Dominus Ghaul, who has destroyed the tower and drained the traveler in an attempt to gain the power for himself. It will be up to the Guardians to put an end to Ghaul and his Red Legion Army, with a larger focus on storytelling this time around.

New Worlds to Explore

In Destiny 2 we can expect various new planets to explore, including big worlds such as Titan, Nessus, IO and the EDZ (which is where the Farm is located). Expect some of the largest areas that Bungie has ever created, even beating out areas that were found in the original game.

New Social Space "The Farm"

Gone is the Tower, destroyed by Ghaul at the start of Destiny 2. All may appear lost, but the new social hub known as "The Farm" will bring players together to unite as they rebuild their forces. This social space will support up to 26 players at once, give various activities to engage in (including a little game of Football) and even feature Chickens!

New Crucible Maps

We already know of a few new maps that will be coming to the game, there's Endless Vale, Midtown, Vostok and Pillar of Flame. As Bungie continues to develop the game further we can hopefully expect to see even more nearer to launch.

New Crucible Modes

PVP is more intense and they have reduced the player count to 4v4 modes, making matches feel more intense and every player on the team feels like a valued member that could mean the difference between winning and losing. Destiny 2 has two new modes, first up there's Survival - which will see both teams share 8 lives, when they expire it boils down to a Last Team Standing until one is the winner. The other mode is Control which will see teams Defend an area from being blown while the other must try to plant the bomb.

New Subclasses

Classes are being revamped in Destiny 2, with the 3 main classes (Titan, Warlock and Hunter) each getting a new "Subclass". You can read a little more about each "Subclass" in our article to get an overview of each one.

New Weapon System

Weapons play a big role in the game and there's 3 categories to pick from, Power Weapons are the limited ammo type that offer high damage at the cost of low ammo, then you've got the Kinetic Weapons an

Easier to find clans to play with

If you're a solo player then chances are you may feel a bit lonely and finding clans could see a daunting task at first, but thanks to the game's clan system it's even easier to find a clan than ever before by supporting up to 100 players each! By joining a clan you will be able to find more players to play with, though if you're not able to find one then don't worry as the game has matchmaking has the answer to help solo players locate a missing player for their games.

Lost Sectors

Exploring is a big feature of Destiny 2 and each planet has plenty to uncover, if you are able to find one of the Lost Sectors in the game then you'll be treated to a "Mini Dungeon" which contains Bosses and even Loot for those lucky enough to look for them.

Adventures

Each planet you visit contains various Adventures that are located throughout the world, these are self contained stories that allow players to get more Lore for the game's history.

Much easier to get around

One of the biggest complaints in the original Destiny was having to revisit your ship in order to get from place to place. That's gone in Destiny 2 as you're able to do it all from a map, no matter where you are!

Not long to wait now as Destiny 2 is fast approaching, the PC Beta arrives next week. Pre-order the Standard or the Digital Deluxe Edition today and get Early Beta Access starting on August 28th. The game launches first on September 6th for PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC release date for October 24th.
