There has probably never been such a fuss about an expansion before, but Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree may be the one to break the mould. See how the critics are reviewing the long awaited DLC!

FromSoftware has once again delivered the goods and released the best in-house expansion to date. For some, the DLC even puts the main game in the shadow of the Earth Tree. Shadow of the Erdtree as an add-on (large DLC package) should leave hardly anything to be desired. Even the relatively high price of almost £/$40 for an expansion (on Gamesplanet only £31.49 / $35.99) is absolutely justified, according to the press, because with an average playtime of 40 hours, the new content package for Elden Ring offers plenty of fun.

IGN even awarded the game a perfect 10/10, echoing what they gave the base game in 2022. "Erdtree’s absolutely jam-packed with secrets, valuable treasures, challenging boss battles, and horrific monstrosities to face off against, as well as cool new weapons, spells, Ashes of War, Spirit Ashes, talismans, and more".

Critics praised the large scope of Shadow of the Erdtree, the vertical expansion of the game world, the graphical presentation and atmosphere and, of course, the new weapons, the additional buff system and the challenging bosses. The functionality of the overview map and the frequent placement of helpful messages (Eurogamer) were noticed negatively.
