The Locust horde doesn’t have to wait until 6 October – and neither do you: Anyone who owns the Gears of War: E-Day Premium Edition (available on Gamesplanet as a Microsoft Store key at a 10 per cent discount) can already jump into Advanced Access on PC. The official launch of Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled for October 6th 2026.

Strong reviews to kick things off

The initial reviews are looking good: on OpenCritic, Gears of War: E-Day currently stands at 88% (Mighty) – that’s more than just decent. For a third-person cover shooter making a comeback after years of silence, that’s a pretty solid start.

The campaign turns back the clock: you play as Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, fourteen years before the first Gears of War, when the Locust first burst out of the ground. Whether you play solo or in online co-op with up to four people is up to you.

In multiplayer, the revamped Horde Siege wave mode awaits. You choose from the Assault, Sniper, Medic and Breaker classes and fight in squads of four, which even team up with other squads to take on world bosses. Those who prefer to compete against other players will find new maps, 4v4 modes and ranked matches in the revamped Versus mode.

Technically, the game is powered by Unreal Engine 5. On PC, you can expect 4K resolution, theoretically unlimited frame rates, ray tracing, DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR “Redstone”, plus ultrawide support and optimisation for handhelds such as the Steam Deck*.

*Note: Our keys are Microsoft Store keys and will not work with Steam Deck.
