Everything you need to know about the release of the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima
PC gamers have had to wait a long time for a port of the console hit Ghost of Tsushima. On May 16, publisher PlayStation PC LLC will release the Director's Cut for PC. What's included, what's different? We summarize it all below.
Ghost of Tsushima - not only very beautiful, but also very good
The game developed by Sucker Punch Productions, Nixxes Software and PlayStation Studios first made its debut on the PlayStation 4 in July 2020 and only a few weeks later on the PS5. With resounding success: Today, the Metascore of the PS5 Director's Cut of Ghost of Tsushima stands at 87 points in the critics' rating.
Following Sony's promise to bring more games to PC, action is being taken. The PC version of Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut will be released tomorrow with everything that was already included in the console version - but also adds a few more PC features. Incidentally, the “Director's Cut” in the title means that the Iki Islands story expansion is already included. Other extras of the Director's Cut include DualSense controller support (on PC via cable connection), improved loading times, synchronized lip movements in Japanese dialogues and further improvements to the user interface and gameplay.
It's best not to skip the dialogues in the game, as they carry the storyline of loss of homeland and revenge under the umbrella of the samurai code of honour through the many hours of gameplay that await you in this open-world title. In the late 13th century, the first Mongol invasion on the Japanese island of Tsushima destroys the homeland of our protagonist Jin Sakai, the last surviving warrior of his kind.
With Jin, you travel through an authentic and wonderfully designed ancient Japan, defeating various opponents mostly in sword fights and gradually learning new fighting techniques. Ghost of Tsushima has also been acclaimed by players and the press for its breathtaking graphics and meticulous recreation of the Japanese landscape and architecture of the 13th century. The development studio has placed great emphasis on authenticity, which is reflected in the detailed environment, clothing and weapons. The dynamic weather changes and the day-night cycle add to the immersive atmosphere.
The combat system is challenging and requires quick reflexes, but doesn't torture you with the difficulty of Dark Souls. It includes traditional samurai techniques as well as “ghost” tactics for fans of stealth. Jin can switch between different fighting styles to adapt to different opponents. Distraction techniques, throwing knives or even smoke bombs complete the stealth experience on the Japan trip. And if you ever come across a fox - follow it!
Special features of the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima
After the debacle surrounding the originally planned PSN account requirement for Helldivers 2, which was intended to improve the security of the multiplayer title, Sony is taking a slightly different approach for Ghost of Tsushima. You only need to connect the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima to a (free) Sony PSN account if you want to play the “Legends” multiplayer mode or use PlayStation overlays. Legends is effectively a separate (online) game within the game. The huge single-player campaign of Ghost of Tsushima does not require a PSN account, only a Steam account.
Otherwise, the Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut for PC offers a number of advantages, primarily in terms of graphics and refresh rate. Ghost of Tsushima DC has been fully optimized for ultrawide monitors and supports resolutions of 21:9 and 32:9. The PC version even supports 48:9 resolutions and triple monitor configurations. Jerky graphics due to the graphic splendor? That can be avoided: You can boost your frame rates with NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3 or Intel XeSS or further improve the image quality with NVIDIA DLAA or AMD FSR 3 Native AA. There are also a number of graphics presets that allow the game to run well on both older hardware and high-end PCs.
