Hela: of Mice & Magic – Deep Dive reveals how brewing works in the mouse adventure
Hela: of Mice & Magic reveals how collecting and brewing potions works in its new ‘Brewing Up a Little Magic’ deep dive. The co-op adventure is due for release on December 1st 2026.
Developer Windup Games has dedicated a new deep-dive video to the centrepiece of the witch’s cottage: the cauldron. In Hela: of Mice & Magic, you’ll collect plants and other ingredients whilst roaming the game world as a mouse, which you then take to the Kind Witch’s cottage to process. Importantly, brewing in Hela isn’t simply a matter of selecting a recipe from a list. Instead, each recipe is its own little mini-activity with its own sequence of actions – once you’ve gathered the right ingredients, you carry out a specific series of steps to brew the potion. No two recipes are the same.
The finished potions are more than just decoration: you use them to help characters you meet along the way. Some remedies even open up new ways for your mouse to interact.
Collecting ingredients is closely intertwined with exploring the world. That strange plant off the beaten track? It might be worth a look. The ingredient that can only be found in a seemingly inaccessible spot? Perhaps there’s a good reason to climb up there.
What is Hela: of Mice & Magic about?
Hela: of Mice & Magic is a laid-back open-world adventure with plenty of exploration-based gameplay. Take on the role of a small but nimble mouse who travels as the companion of an old witch inspired by the natural world of northern Sweden. The friendly witch has long protected the forest and its inhabitants – but now her powers are waning, whilst the world is increasingly thrown out of balance. As her little helper, you set off, solve puzzles, encounter all manner of creatures and perform small acts of kindness to restore the balance. Hela is a 3D open-world adventure that can be played solo, in local split-screen or online with up to four players.
