A Heroes of Might and Magic 3 remake is on its way! A new version of the cult classic has been announced with a Gamescom trailer

The Heroes of Might and Magic 3 remake is set to be unveiled at Gamescom 2026: the cult classic and fan favourite is soon to return in all its glory under Ubisoft’s banner – featuring all the old content as well as new additions.

A comeback that strategy fans have been waiting for

There was a huge surprise at Gamescom 2026’s Opening Night Live: Ubisoft officially announced a Heroes of Might and Magic 3 remake, complete with a first gameplay overview trailer. And it looks absolutely brilliant! The 1999 original is still regarded by strategy gamers as the best instalment in the series, so the community’s expectations are correspondingly high.

The biggest change: instead of rigid 2D isometric views, there’s now a fully-fledged 3D world with a free-roaming camera, 4K resolution, dynamic lighting, and weather and seasonal effects. However, the core turn-based gameplay remains unchanged – the HoMM3 remake won’t be over-optimised at the expense of the core experience. You’ll continue to build cities, gather resources and artefacts, develop your heroes, and throw yourselves into tactical army battles. There are nine factions to choose from, each with their own creatures and playstyles.

The story gets a new prologue, epilogue and new cutscenes

In terms of the story, you take on the role of Queen Catherine, who must restore order to Erathia following the assassination of her father and attacks by hostile factions. All three original campaigns, including the expansions Armageddon’s Blade and Shadow of Death, are woven together into a continuous story – supplemented by a completely new prologue, an epilogue and additional cutscenes.

Online, up to eight players can compete against each other, or alternatively, you can play locally in hotseat mode. The map editor also returns, allowing the community to create their own maps and campaigns. A specific release date for PC has yet to be announced.
