Marathon: Cinematic trailer with music by Poppy & Son Lux sets the mood for release

Die often — but in style. Shortly before launch, Bungie presents an elaborately staged cinematic video for Marathon featuring music by Poppy and Son Lux.

Both worth listening to and definitely worth watching is the cinematic trailer for Marathon. The track “In Death We’ve Just Begun” by Poppy & Son Lux is integrated so seamlessly into the visually striking scenes that it works not only as a game teaser, but also as an official music video. US composer Ryan Lott is responsible for the game’s overall soundtrack. The track itself is already available on all major streaming platforms.

In terms of content, the Marathon video prepares you for what awaits in the sci-fi extraction shooter upon release on March 5: On the planet Tau Ceti IV, you step into the role of so-called Runners. You head out in teams, secure valuable resources, complete contracts, and attempt to escape alive. At the same time, you search for answers surrounding the colony ship UESC Marathon and the disappearance of an entire settlement. Particularly impressive is Marathon’s unique art style, which arguably has no equal within the genre. Graphics and sound ultimately combine into a well-rounded overall package. Whether the gameplay lives up to that promise will become clear after release.

The squad shown in the trailer clearly feels the dangers of the planet. Act carelessly, and you lose everything. Plan cleverly, and you may be richly rewarded. This risky gameplay loop lies at the heart of the experience.

Marathon launches globally on March 5, 2026. The servers are scheduled to go live for German players at 7 PM.
