Capcom unveils ‘Mega Man: Dual Override’ at Gamescom – Override system featured in gameplay trailer
Capcom is showcasing new gameplay footage from Mega Man: Dual Override at Gamescom. The Blue Bomber shares the stage with Proto Man, and the spotlight is on a new Override system.
With Mega Man: Dual Override, Capcom is launching the twelfth main instalment in the series – just in time for the brand’s 40th anniversary. New: You can choose between Mega Man and Proto Man, who differ noticeably in terms of gameplay. Whilst Mega Man relies on his Mega Buster and various special weapons, Proto Man fights in a more technical style and uses his shield for different attack patterns.
Story and Override Mechanics
The plot: Whilst Dr Light is away, the robots at a robotics exhibition suddenly go haywire. Mega Man and Proto Man must restore peace whilst uncovering the cause of the chaos. The central gameplay element of Mega Man: Dual Override is the eponymous Override system: when activated, you gain a massive temporary power boost, but are subsequently vulnerable as key functions are restricted. Timing therefore becomes the core strategy.
This is complemented by a special chip system for customisable upgrades, as well as classic special weapons that you unlock after boss battles against the Robot Masters – including the new opponent Twinkle Girl, an entertainment robot that has gone haywire.
Mega Man: Dual Override is due for release in 2027 on PC.
