Two new videos for Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection provide fresh insights into the upcoming RPG — including developer commentary from Lead Gameplay Designer Daisuke Wakahara. A free trial version is also available on Steam.

With the “Official Concept Art and Walkthrough Trailer” from IGN Fan Fest 2026 and an in-depth developer video featuring Lead Gameplay Designer Daisuke Wakahara, the turn-based RPG Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection further defines its direction. The release is scheduled for March 13, 2026.

The story revolves around a mysterious phenomenon that alters entire ecosystems and pushes the two kingdoms, Azural and Vermeil, to the brink of destruction. You take on the role of a prince or princess of Azural, already an experienced Rider bonded with a Rathalos, and lead a ranger unit. Unlike previous entries, the protagonist now speaks and takes a clear stance throughout the narrative.

Locations you will explore include Azuria Castle, the village of Sheparden, and the desert metropolis of Galyad. These locations are showcased in the video while Wakahara provides commentary. The new “Athletic Ride” concept allows climbing, swimming, sneaking, flying, and performing special actions such as breath attacks.

The Refined Turn-Based Combat System of Monster Hunter Stories 3

The turn-based combat system continues to revolve around Power, Speed, and Technical attacks. New additions include targeted body-part damage, a Willpower gauge for Break states, and the “Synchro Rush” attack for massive group damage. Monstie management has also expanded: egg hunting, habitat restoration, and rare attribute variants — including color changes — play a central role.
