Pacific Drive: Exciting genre mix, special art design - here's what the developers have to say
Developed by Ironwood and published by Kepler Interactive, the highly unusual survival game Pacific Drive has gameplay elements from many different genres under the bonnet. Survival, roguelike, racing and all that in a pretty crazy world with bizarre anomalies that will test your wits. Travelling by car in an alternative version of the USA, you end up in an area of the Olympic Peninsula that is actually sealed off. Technical experiments in the past have triggered anomalies there, which you now have to deal with. Can you make it out with your vehicle and uncover the secrets surrounding the peninsula on which you seem to be trapped?
The art design of Pacific Drive in particular deserves a closer look. The world of Pacific Drive does seem a little eerie. And when your own car breaks down amidst threatening-looking anomalies, we as players start to sweat. It was important to the development team at Ironwood Studios to create a unique, mysterious setting for Pacific Drive. Deep forests, darkness, empty streets, the frightening feeling of being isolated - in the following developer diary from Ironwood, those responsible have their say.
