R.U.S.E. Definitive Edition: The classic WWII strategy game is back after 11 years

R.U.S.E. is back – as the Definitive Edition, featuring all DLCs and Steam Deck support, the hit WW2 real-time strategy game returns to Steam after 11 years.

It has been eleven years since developer Eugen Systems (Steel Division, WARNO) had to remove their own game from Steam due to military licensing issues – without the ability to assist players or provide updates. Now they have regained the rights, and with the R.U.S.E. Definitive Edition, the popular strategy highlight is making its official comeback, including all previously released DLCs and with Steam Deck certification for smooth RTS gameplay even on the handheld.

Bluff as a weapon – why R.U.S.E. remains unique to this day

R.U.S.E. is a real-time strategy game set in the Second World War that makes deception its core mechanic. Instead of relying solely on troop strength, you manage so-called RUSE cards – actions that allow you to conceal your movements from enemy reconnaissance, deploy decoys, impose radio silence, or spy on enemy troops. This turns every game into a tactical game of cat and mouse, where brains count for more than cannon fodder.

The exclusive IRISZOOM engine allows for a seamless switch between close-up views of individual units and a bird’s-eye view for a clear board game feel, giving the whole thing a unique, charming look.

In the solo campaign, you step into the combat boots of Major Joe Sheridan, whose mission takes him from North Africa to Western Europe. There are also single scenarios and AI skirmishes. In multiplayer, up to 8 strategists compete against each other – either in classic mode, in the progressive ‘Total War’ mode, or in a nuclear race for the atomic bomb. Six factions – the USA, Germany, France, Great Britain, the USSR and Italy – are available to choose from, each with its own playstyle.
