Total War: Warhammer 3 – Tides of Torment add-on brings Aislinn's dragon ships and new monsters to the coast

New DLC Tides of Torment for Total War: Warhammer 3 features three legendary lords and more. A new gameplay video introduces Commander Aislinn in detail.

With Total War: Warhammer 3 - Tides of Torment, Total War: Warhammer 3 gets a fresh sea breeze in its sails. So strong, in fact, that even Alith Anar is likely to look up from his high seat. With the new DLC content from Tides of Torment, which will be available to play from December 4th, Admiral Aislinn will be the focus of attention alongside two other commanders. A legendary High Elf commander whose reputation oscillates somewhere between ‘brilliant naval tactician’ and ‘does things that nobles would rather not see’. Officially, he is Ulthuan's spearhead against dark elves, Norsca warriors and anyone else who annoys the Asur. Unofficially, he's just the guy who gets the biggest ships because no one else can sail them.

The official gameplay video with Aislinn in the character portrait, recently released by Creative Assembly, provides a fitting first impression. Lots of ships, lots of magic, lots of ‘Why is the sea on fire again?’. Just as you'd expect.

Tides of Torment: Aislinn's dragon ships instead of settlements

Aislinn breaks with the usual Total War conventions: the Sea Guard does not build cities, it is the city. Its dragon ships function as mobile fortresses with complete infrastructure, economy and military buildings on board. Aislinn starts with one ship, but can obtain more during the campaign, allowing her to operate an entire floating civilisation.

The ships supply neighbouring allies, launch amphibious attacks and are generally the reason why enemies suddenly have much less desire to holiday on the coast.

Aislinn usually hands over conquered cities to friendly high elf factions, but retains rights to outposts. There, he strengthens his fleets or establishes elven colonies in key locations that yield valuable resources. For even more synergy, outposts can be explicitly dedicated to a large elf faction – in return, you receive bonuses and support from elite units. Elf networking at its finest.

New units for land, air and sea

Of course, Tides of Torment also brings fresh troops. In addition to familiar High Elf units, there are new coastal units in particular:

  • Legendary Commander: Admiral Aislinn
  • Commander: Sea Lord
  • Legendary Hero: Caradryan
  • Hero: Mistcaller
  • Melee Infantry: Ship's Crew
  • Monstrous Infantry: Water Elemental, Oceanids
  • Monsters: Sea Wyrm
  • Flying Chariot (Ranged): Skyglider of Lothern (Bow), Skyglider of Lothern (Spear Thrower)
  • 3 new legendary mercenary regiments

Aislinn does not come alone

However, Tides of Torment is more than just ‘Aislinn & Friends’. The DLC delivers a complete trio of new legendary lords: in addition to the maritime-minded high elf, Dechala, the Renegade, also joins Slaanesh. A six-armed snake warrior who turns cities into slave camps faster than you can say ‘excess’. And Sayl the Faithless, a manipulative Chaos sorcerer who probably wouldn't even wish his own allies a happy birthday. Both bring their own campaign mechanics, monstrous unit lists, and plenty of sinister playstyles that perfectly suit their factions. The package is also accompanied by Update 7.0, which includes free content, new combat units, additional story elements, and a load of balance optimisations for all owners of Total War: Warhammer 3.

With Tides of Torment, Total War: Warhammer 3 not only gets fresh content, but also three new ways to spread chaos across the world map even more beautifully. Tides of Torment is a ‘complete add-on’, but you can also purchase the new legendary lords individually on Gamesplanet if you wish.
