Wardogs: Bulkhead explains how an ARMA cult mod became a standalone shooter
Wardogs, the tactical 100-player FPS from Bulkhead and Team17, is showcased in a new video. It explains why the creators of the ARMA cult mod “King of the Hill” are on board.
Anyone who has already seen the announcement trailer for Wardogs from February and is hungry for more information now has something to dig into: Bulkhead has released a new behind-the-scenes video that sheds light on the project’s origins — and, above all, explains why Sa-Matra and Roid Rage, the original developers of the legendary King of the Hill mod for ARMA 3, have been involved from the very beginning.
From mod to standalone shooter
The idea was never to simply clone the mod. Instead, Bulkhead worked together with the mod creators to identify what made King of the Hill so special — and what aspects could work even better in a fully standalone game. Persistence, meaningful progression, and true “role-playing” beyond just being an infantry soldier: Wardogs aims to take exactly these elements to the next level.
100 players, one zone, endless possibilities
Wardogs sends three teams onto a massive, destructible 256 km² map, where they battle over a central control zone. Players have access to a wide selection of weapons, equipment, and vehicles. The team with the most players inside the zone earns points — the first to reach 100 wins. It may sound familiar, but thanks to building and destruction mechanics, no match will ever play out the same way. Establish outposts, tear down buildings, airlift supplies, or level everything with artillery tanks: Wardogs lets you decide how important your role in the battle will be. Teamplay is designed to be tangibly rewarded.
The game deliberately aims to fill the gap between military sim and arcade shooter. Early Access on Steam is planned for 2026, and Wardogs will also be available on Gamesplanet.
