What is Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon?

No swords, no horses, no spells - and yet Armored Core 6 is a true FromSoftware game. Just without the fantasy stuff, but with all the more sci-fi tech. The blatant change of setting does not harm a game by FromSoftware, on the contrary. With IGN's review, it's clear that the gameplay is fun, even if not everything lands. It was given an impressive 8/10 "Great" score.

Your steel colossi, which are on average 10 metres high, jump onto the parquet with unusual agility and dare to dance with no less large mech opponents every few metres. Once again, the last resources are at stake after devastating wars. On Rubicon 3, a remote planet, the coral substance has been discovered, which is probably not only useful as a source of energy. It is clear that several corporations and resistance fighters are now fighting over the coveted resource. In the midst of the conflicts, you stand with your completely customisable Armored Core (AC for short).

Battles with ordinary opponents are relatively easy to master, but the boss fights are much bigger, tougher tin cans that FromSoftware can live out its sadism DNA. Tough mech fights that once again demand all your skills. Quick evasive manoeuvres, tactical action and extensive tinkering with different weapon systems and armour parts. In Armored Core 6, it very often takes several attempts to level boss mechs to the ground. If you want to play through the entire game with just one equipment loadout, you won't stand a chance.

The fears that Armored Core 6 will not be well received after all of FromSoftware's successes with completely different game settings have not been confirmed so far. On Metacritic, AC6 currently has an average rating of 87%. Eurogamer even awards full points for the mech action in their review. Games with fast mechs are less appealing to the masses than, for example, Elden Ring - that's for sure. But those who live for typical FromSoftware gameplay and challenging battles don't even have to be a Sci-Fi fan to be happy with Armored Core 6.

Armored Core 6 will be released globally on August 25th at 00:00 CEST. For those in the UK this means you can start playing from 11pm BST on August 24th, while US gamers get to play from 3pm PDT. Take a look below at the launch times for each region.

Armored Core 6 PC system requirements

The mechs are already well oiled, hopefully your PCs are well ventilated: On August 25th, Bandai Namco will release Armored Core 6 - and this is the hardware on which the mech game will run cleanly.

Ray tracing can be optionally switched on in Armored Core 6, so that it should run well on relatively weak systems without RT - gamers with thick PCs can look forward to high-end graphics with fine ray tracing effects.

Will Armored Core run on the Steam Deck?

According to the Steam info, AC6 should run on the Steam Deck, but with small restrictions. The yellow info icon gives it away: "Some text in the game is small and may be difficult to read." This is probably why the game runs on a ROG Ally from ASUS.
