No steam is not part of the process at all. You need a battle net account.

You would need to have a Call of Duty account and connect that way. See this guide for help on that :)

o.k. hopefully i didn't make a huge mistake...I bought COD MW on Gamesplanet.net ...I downloaded it on Blizzard and when I launched the game it gives me a sign in error ...this account does not own COD MW error code BLZBNTBGS00000033
