What is Pioneers of Pagonia?
When other developers fail to deliver a worthy successor to The Settlers, the OG has to step up to the plate: The creator of The Settlers, Volker Wertich, personally worked on Pioneers of Pagonia as Creative Director. If anyone knows how to run a game like this, it's him. Above all, he knows how the little figures on the maps should run. Not settlers, but pioneers.
Even the first glance at the screenshots brings back memories. Oh, the "scurry factor" is back! In Pioneers of Pagonia, you send settlers pioneers out to search for suitable areas on numerous islands where your pioneers can settle. Are there enough forests for wood materials in the area? Can you mine stone and other resources nearby? Is there enough building land for your buildings? At the Early Access launch on December 13th 2023, there are around 40 building types in the game - they need space.
The green, colourful world of Pioneers of Pagonia could hardly be more inviting on these grey winter days. You don't even have to put yourself through the full stress of the game. In other words, you can go on military missions, fight rogues, bandits and even werewolves, but all within your own parameters if you wish. Simply create your own maps and decide how you want your sandbox game to play out. Cosy or challenging - the choice is yours.
If your economy is flourishing, you can have 10,000 inhabitants scurrying around your village. All busy on their way to transport goods, mine resources or erect buildings. A convenient interface allows you to place and align objects in a targeted and orderly manner without much effort. Peace-loving players will sooner or later form alliances with other villages.
