Tropico 7: First Gameplay Teaser Makes Waves

Kalypso Media has released the first gameplay video for Tropico 7. It makes one thing crystal clear: El Presidente is back, and this time he’s ready to shape not only political views but the entire island as well.

Tropico 7 is a city-builder with a political slant—and that’s meant quite literally. As El Presidente, you take control of a Caribbean island archipelago and literally have the power to move mountains. The terraforming feature—a first for the Tropico series—lets you reshape the landscape however you like: flatten hills, create beaches, and build entire islands out of the water. City-building meets political simulation here, with a healthy dose of dictatorial self-irony.

The story of Tropico 7 unfolds across five campaign maps and tells the tale of El Presidente’s personal rise to power—complicated by the meddling of his confidant Penultimo and a new adversary named Victoria Guerra, who consistently thwarts your presidential master plan. Those who prefer to rule on their own will find plenty of room to play in more than 20 sandbox maps and a random map generator.

Factions, Edicts, and Presidential Diplomacy

In the teaser clip for Tropico 7, you can already see how the island takes shape under El Presidente’s (i.e., your) guidance: Roads wind through growing districts, buildings are constructed with synergy in mind, and the mood of the population can be steered via edicts, campaign speeches, or—well—targeted information campaigns. In the Palastrat, you sit face-to-face with the various factions and negotiate whatever needs to be negotiated. The revamped military system also gives you more direct control over your troops in case peaceful persuasion doesn’t work.

There’s no specific release date yet, but Tropico 7 is set to launch in 2026. Coming soon here on Gamesplanet.
