Is it really region locked? couldn't you just activate de code using a vpn?

I tried only switching the region on my origin account from Italy, to colorado and it worked for me...first attempt with Italy as location get me an error, second try with colorado worked fine, and i can find the game on my library, and also Beta access is unlocked. so i can confirm this.
